Notably, the number of 3D printing-related patent applications in the construction industry was 70 in Q2 2024, versus 104 in the prior quarter.
The top five companies accounted for 24% of patenting activity
Analysis of patenting activity by companies shows that Sany Group filed the most 3D printing patents within the construction industry in Q2 2024. The company filed 5 3D printing-related patents in the quarter, compared with 5 in the previous quarter. It was followed by General Electric with 4 3D printing patent filings, Tongji University (3 filings), and DXC Technology (3 filings) in Q2 2024.
Patenting activity was driven by China with a 36% share of total patent filings
The largest share of 3D printing related patent filings in the construction industry in Q2 2024 was in China with 36%, followed by the US (17%) and Germany (6%). The share represented by China was 0.13% higher than the 36% share it accounted for in Q1 2024.
