A joint venture (JV) led by , an engineering and construction company, has secured a RM4.3bn ($989.06bn) design-and-build contract for the Xizhi Donghu Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) construction project in Taiwan.

The deal, awarded by the Department of Rapid Transit Systems of New Taipei City, involves a substantial infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing urban connectivity.

The unincorporated JV comprises Gamuda with a 75% stake, MiTAC Information Technology holding 15%, and Dong Pi Co with the remaining 10%.

The project spans 5.78km and includes six elevated stations, promising to bolster the local MRT system in response to New Taipei City’s growing transportation needs.

The JV is also poised to undertake additional works valued at RM10.8bn, which encompass maintenance depot construction and system and track works for two extension lines.

Gamuda anticipates revenue of RM3.2bn from the awarded contract sum and a further RM8.1bn from the estimated additional works. The project duration is set for roughly seven years.
